Imtiaz Ali is back again, and sadly with another toffee-nosed movie that's really not that impressive. This Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor starrer is a pompous which gets lost somewhere in trying to express its message, 'Follow your dreams'.
The movie begins with a hottie traveling alone and meeting a super hot girl (who too, is on an all-alone tour), from the same country. (Seriously, why doesn't that happen to me!?) They decide to befriend with fake filmy personalities and get pretty comfortable with each other.
When it comes to separating after 5 days, Tara Maheshwari (Deepika) bids a kissed-farewell to Ved Vardhan Sahni (Ranbir) without exchanging contacts. Four years pass by and Tara keeps living a super rich yet boring life in Kolkata whereas Ved gets back to his robotic-monotonic corporate life. Tara keeps visiting the cafe Ved borrowed a book from, back when they were in Corsica, France (Wait, the place is damn beautiful!) And after they meet one day in the cafe, they start dating!
The day Ved decides to propose to Tara, she points out that he has changed (after waiting for like, really a lot of days!) Post breakup, Ved starts getting weird day by day, to a point when you start doubting whether he's suffering from a psychological disorder. Tara apologizes to Ved many a times, but his complex of being a failure at being studies since childhood has been hurt already and so, he refuses to get back with his lady love.
Ved continues his bizarre behaviour in his office which ultimately costs him his job. After a six-month long quest, Ved goes back to Shimla, his home town. When his typical Indian father (Javed Sheikh) starts to lecture him again on 'understand your responsibility, act mature' and stuff, he runs away to his childhood favorite story teller (Piyush Mishra) to know the end of his story. And then after a bit of blah-blah, Ved realizes he's looking for the peace only Tara can give him. Wow. And then they get back together. And then I realized I wasted 152 minutes of my life for a pompous story.
In a nutshell, the first 40 minutes are more like a travel blog, and the rest of the movie fails to both entertain and inspire its audience. Both the actors have worked pretty decently. The song Pal Pal is the only track that matches with the soul of the film, rest of the songs are a bit above average. The costume designer team has worked really well.
In all, I give 2 out of 5 stars to the movie.
